[You can read my first review here] I seriously cannot stay away from this place when there is so much goodness to choose from. I must try it all! That being said, I have somehow managed to resist until I saw that there would be a Cinco de Mayo special - the carnitas "torta." Oh but Minerva now has to go. Bruxie has forced her hand. Yes, it was the restaurant's fault after all, so off I went!
The line was nice and long on a Saturday afternoon but moved quickly. I snagged myself the carnitas "torta," and it was glorious. The meat pulled away in soft but flavorful strips. The overabundance of fresh vegetables made the meatiness feel less heavy. The sauce was just wowing. It was a messy meal but it was well worth the dirty fingers.
Of course I managed to drag a friend along with me. She opted for the Angus burger which wouldn't have been my choice for only my second visit if I were her. Quite simply, the burger fillings (patty, vegetables, and cheese) were great in themselves but did not belong in a waffle. So yes, it was a good "burger" but not a good waffle sandwich!
We shared their lemon cream and berries dessert which was tartly fantastic. I salivate even at the thought of something being tart, and I can't handle too much of it. I was just barely able to take this one on because the sweetness from the cream base itself helped balance out the sting of lemon. The berries were oh so fresh and tasty. How do they make all this epic food? I'll be coming back again and again fellas.
