Just because, last Thursday, I told Duc that I would take him out for an oceanside brunch on Sunday since I was hankering for some beach air (or a general adventure). I figured I could pair it with a trip to Sweet & Saucy Shop down at the Crystal Cove Promenade and had remembered seeing a cafe of some sort the last time I visited the area. I looked it up and found Pacific Whey. It looked promising so we headed there that morning.

Duc decided on his order first - the Farmers Scramble which had sausage, red bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and plenty of Cheddar cheese. It came with our choice of toast (sourdough!), house potatoes, and a fruit salad. Truly a heavy scramble it was but therefore also very filling. The flavors played well with each other and were not overshadowing by the cheese. I liked the texture of the potatoes, especially how they were well crisped on each side. The sourdough was bland unfortunately but hey, fresh fruit!

My order was for the breakfast quesadilla, a monster of a meal I discovered. It had scrambled eggs, spianch, mushrooms, tomatoes,  Pepperjack cheese, and chorizo by my request (how do you resist chorizo...?). I too got a delightful fruit salad. The quesadilla was oh so good, especially with the provided tomatillo salsa and pico de gallo. The cheese held everything together well enough but it wasn't overbearing. Pieces of the food still tried to fall out but I caught them with my mouth. The chorizo was a great addition to the quesadilla which I figured could have been a little drab without the greasy, meaty flavor. I'd get this again for sure.

To-go, we order what they labeled as their "Signature Cinnamon Custard Danish." It looked like a pizza! It tasted like a giant dan ta. The custard worked really well with the soft dough of the danish underneath it. The cinnamon added more complexity to the slice itself, and certainly the custard was the best part. We were quite happy with our meals and enjoyed the outside patio area where we could both people and ocean watch.
